What Makes the Honda CR-V a Great SUV
2021 Honda CR-V / MotorTrend
There is a lot to love about the Honda CR-V – it is fun to drive, compatible, and offers standard active safety tech. The 2022 Honda CR-V, which is available now at Kelly Honda in Lynn, MA, offers a hybrid version as well. After becoming the 2018 MotorTrend SUV of the Year, the compact SUV continues to impress automotive experts as well as customers.
According to MotorTrend, the Honda CR-V continues to win comparison test after comparison test. Why? Credit a combination of innovative, practical details along with excellent driving dynamics. As a family-oriented SUV, the CR-V is in the top of half of the class for efficiency and wins the experts at MotorTrend’s hearts with simple touches like levers to fold down the rear seats from the cargo area as well as rear doors that open to nearly 90 degrees. Those details you cannot find on competitors, such as the Toyota RAV4.
Performance & Efficiency
With the exception of the hybrid model, every CR-V works with the same powertrain. A 1.5-liter turbocharged I-4 supplies 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque, all of which is sent to the front wheels as standard, although AWD is available on all trims. Those over at MotorTrend tested an AWD CR-V Touring, which reached 60 mph in 7.8 seconds. In terms of fuel economy, the CR-V has up to 28 city / 34 highway mpg.
Safety Ratings & Features
While the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has not yet evaluated the 2022 CR-V, safety ratings from the 2021 CR-V still apply. Last year, the CR-V earned a 2021 Top Safety Pick when equipped with Good-rated LED headlights. The 2022 CR-V earns a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) which includes a four-star rollover rating with a 16.4-percent rollover risk.
All Honda CR-V’s are fitted with the Honda Sensing collection of driver-assist active safety features. Automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control are includes as standard on all trims.
Cargo Space & Interior Room
It is safe to say that there is plenty of space inside a CR-V. Compared to its closest competitor, the Toyota RAV4, the CR-V has more cargo room behind the rear seat and with the seat folded down, plus passengers will benefit from more leg room front and rear.
